Skinsuit is a collaboration with textile designer Chloe Swords. I asked Chloe if she would design a print for a cycle jersey in human flesh tones, so from a distance it appears the rider is naked. The hope was that this would remind the approaching motorist that the cyclist is a flesh and blood human, and the motorist should pass them carefully at a safe distance. I wanted the the designs to be graphic and visceral in their detail, evoking the vulnerability of the cyclist. Chloe responded by producing a series of lino cuts, which were embedded and printed directly onto the model’s body.
We scanned the printed model, and the lino cuts themselves, and I assembled the images to create a proposal for a skinsuit.
